Lola M. Cooley, 78

Lola M. Cooley, 78, of West Portsmouth, passed away Thursday, November 5, 2026, at Rosemount Pavilion. She was born October 20, 1948, to the late Richard Clayton and Zelma Lee (Craft) Deaver. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas Edward Cooley; two brothers, Vernon (Carol) Deaver and Bob (Deb) Deaver; three sisters, Della Deaver, Carolyn Deaver, and Barb (Harold) Kirk; and her grandfather, Daniel H. Deaver.

Lola was a homemaker in every sense of the word, devoting her life to caring for her family and those around her. She understood that making a home meant more than keeping a house—it meant creating a place where people felt welcome, loved, and cared for. Through everyday acts of kindness and the comfort of her presence, she made a home that her family could always return to. She was also a member of Mt. Zion Apostolic Church, where she shared her faith as a Sunday school teacher.

She is survived by three sons, Timothy Cooley, Christopher Cooley, and Joseph (Jennifer) Cooley; two daughters, Regina Cooley and Cheryl Thornton; two sisters, Shelby (the late Lovell) Ruggles and Serena Messer; and her grandchildren, Tiffany (Tyler) Anderson, who together had the privilege of being her caretakers, Zech Cooley, Dwight (Rachael) Cooley, Ashley (Greg) Payne, Samantha (Daniel) Thornton, Andria (Justin) Thornton, and Kyle (Danielle) Snook. She also leaves her great-grandchildren, Jaydyn, Dominic, Ian, Zeadan, Zander, Kiah, William, Chase, Kobe, Elias, Penellipe, Tallie, Kyndell, Mya, Autumn, Sylas, Levi, Serenity, and Eli, with another great-grandchild on the way, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Tuesday, November 10, 2026, at Mt. Zion Apostolic Church with Elder George Gravely and Brother Steven Skidmore officiating. Burial will follow at McKendree Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Tuesday from 11:00 AM until the time of service. Arrangements are under the direction of the Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth. Condolences may be sent to www.rogerwdavisfuneralhome.com.
