WASHINGTON COURT HOUSE, Ohio — Fayette County Public Health has opened registration for this year’s “A Light in the Dark” Glow Walk, an evening event that honors people affected by suicide and connects families with mental health resources.
The health department said in a Facebook post that it created a single web page answering the most common questions it has been fielding about the walk, including how to register, volunteer, sponsor, reserve a resource table or donate a silent auction basket or swag bag item. “We love seeing our community come together around hope and mental health,” the health department said in the post.
The walk is set for 6:45 p.m. Sept. 12 at Tony’s Welding & Fabrication Stadium at the Miami Trace Athletic Field, 3772 State Route 41, according to the event’s registration website. A program begins at 7:30 p.m., followed by a first lap at 8 p.m. and a last lap at 9 p.m.

Registration is free, and the walk includes glow items, information and resource booths, memorial luminaries and a photo booth at no cost, the website said. T-shirts, a silent auction, a raffle and food trucks will be available for an additional fee.
People can register at bit.ly/glowfayco26. Those who want to volunteer or host a table can sign up at bit.ly/glowfaycovol26.
The health department helps lead the Community of Hope Fayette County Suicide Prevention Coalition, which announced plans this month to launch a new team of trained volunteers to reach families in the hours after a suicide. The coalition has said nearly 1 in 6 people in Fayette County do not know where to turn for help during a mental health crisis.
Anyone experiencing a mental health crisis or thinking about suicide can reach the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline by calling or texting 988, which connects callers with trained counselors around the clock.
