CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — The Ross County Health District will host its annual tire drive and a flu shot clinic on Oct. 10 at the Ross County Fairgrounds, the health district said.
The combined event runs from 8 a.m. to noon and is open to Ross County residents only, according to the health district. There is no fee to drop off tires.
Residents may drop off up to 10 car tires per vehicle, the maximum allowed under Ohio law for transporting tires at one time, the health district said. Only rimless, residential car tires will be accepted, and the drive will operate on a first-come, first-served basis. The event follows an earlier mosquito-borne virus finding in a Ross County mosquito sample, as discarded tires can collect standing water that serves as a mosquito breeding ground.
Funding for the tire drive comes from the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency’s Mosquito Control Grant, the health district said. Residents with questions about the tire drive can call the district’s Environmental Health office at 740-775-1158.
At the same location, the health district will offer flu shots to residents who bring a photo ID and insurance card, according to the announcement. Those without insurance can still receive a shot, the health district said. Questions about the flu clinic can be directed to 740-775-1146.
