HILLSBORO, Ohio — Hillsboro City Council will take up a proposed increase to city sewer rates and vote on applying for state infrastructure grant funding when it meets Thursday, according to the meeting agenda.
Council is scheduled to hold a first reading Aug. 13 on an ordinance authorizing an increase to the city’s sewer rates, though the agenda does not specify the size of the increase. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. at City Hall, 130 N. High St.
Council will also consider a resolution authorizing Mayor Justin Harsha and the engineering firm DLZ Ohio Inc. to prepare and submit an application to the Ohio Public Works Commission for state capital improvement or local transportation improvement funding, and to execute related contracts. The resolution is listed as an emergency measure, meaning council could vote to suspend the standard three-reading process and act on it the same night.
The agenda also calls for a second reading of an ordinance repealing and replacing the city’s residential and commercial building fee schedule, an update council introduced in July after officials said the outdated fee structure cost the city nearly $41,000 last year. A resolution adopting a social media policy for city employees and officials is also up for a second reading, after members sent an earlier draft to committee for revisions.
Council’s Finance Committee is also listed to report on the Fenner Avenue and state Route 73 intersection reconstruction project, for which the city solicited sealed contractor bids due Aug. 12.
