BROWN TOWNSHIP, Ohio — A semitruck hauling timber overturned on State Route 278 on Monday, closing the roadway for about two hours, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Troopers from the Jackson Post responded to the crash at 12:02 p.m. in Brown Township, Vinton County, the patrol said.
Christopher K. Shanks, 47, of Waverly, was driving a 2016 Kenworth T880 semi north on State Route 278 when he failed to negotiate a curve, crossed left of center and overturned, according to the patrol. The truck struck a guardrail, slid off the left side of the road and hit an embankment before coming to rest, the patrol said.
The trailer’s load of timber spilled into a roadside ditch, according to the release.
Shanks was not injured, the patrol said. State Route 278 was closed for approximately two hours while crews cleared the scene.
Troopers were assisted at the scene by the Vinton and Hocking County departments of transportation, Starr Township Fire Department and Angle’s Garage, according to the patrol.
