CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — Chillicothe police officers and Ross County sheriff’s deputies traded their patrol cars for golf carts Sunday, teeing off at Dogwood Hills Golf Course to raise money for children who will shop with a police officer this Christmas.
The Chillicothe Police Department’s Detective Division organized the “Good Cop Bad Cop” golf outing, with the Ross County Sheriff’s Office cooking food for participants, according to a post from the police department. Proceeds from the event benefit Shop With A Cop, a program that gives local children money to buy holiday gifts for themselves and their families.
The police department said last year’s golf outing allowed the two agencies to give more children more money to shop than in previous years, though it did not release specific dollar figures from Sunday’s event.
Golfers competed for the chance to win a truck donated by Coughlin GM of Chillicothe, along with dozens of other donated prizes displayed at the course’s pavilion, including power tools, coolers and gift baskets, according to photos posted by the department.
The outing was held at Dogwood Hills Golf Course, a public 18-hole course built in 1991 that sits off U.S. 23 between Chillicothe and Waverly.
The police department also pointed to its partnership with Rock For Tots, Inc., a Chillicothe-based nonprofit that holds its own fundraiser in December. Rock For Tots is a 501(c)(3) organization that gives 100% of the money it raises to dozens of children’s and family-support programs across southern Ohio, including Ross, Pike and Jackson counties. Its annual event typically takes place at the Majestic Theatre in Chillicothe and features live music along with live and silent auctions.
