PIKE COUNTY, Ohio — Pike Water, Inc. has issued a precautionary boil water advisory for customers in two areas of the county, the utility said in a post to its Facebook page.
The advisory covers homes and businesses along Sugar Run Road between the 985 and 2071 address range, as well as a second area encompassing St. Rt. 335 between mile markers 21410 and 21842 and several streets in the unincorporated community of Omega, including Railroad, Third, Mill, Maple, Main, Pearl and Market streets, according to Pike Water.
Customers in the affected areas are advised to bring water to a boil for at least one minute before using it for drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth or preparing food, the utility said.
Pike Water said the advisory was issued as a precaution and that affected customers should continue boiling their water until the company announces that the advisory has been lifted.
The company apologized for the inconvenience and asked for customers’ patience, saying it would provide an update once the advisory is lifted.
Boil water advisories are typically issued after a drop in water pressure, a line break or other disruption that could allow contaminants to enter the water system, and are lifted once follow-up testing confirms the water is safe.
