Betty Reed passed away peacefully at home on September 11, 2026, surrounded by her loving family, following a courageous seven-year battle with cancer. Throughout her illness, Betty demonstrated remarkable strength, unwavering faith, and a deep commitment to the people she loved.
Born in Ohio, Betty’s heart belonged to Galveston, Texas, where she found a special sense of home and cherished her love for the Texas coast.
Betty was a devoted daughter, loving mother, cherished Gigi, sister, aunt, and dear friend. Her greatest joy and purpose was caring for her family. She was known for her generous heart, compassion, sense of humor, and ability to make others feel welcomed and loved. Betty believed that family was defined not only by blood, but by the love shared between people.
Betty was preceded in death by her father, Jack Hupp; her uncle, Terry Lee Williams; her beloved granddaughter, Cali Caligone; and her grandparents.
She leaves to cherish her memory her mother, Shirley Hupp; brothers, Marion Hupp (Cindy), Andrew Hupp, and Bobby Hupp; sister, Natalie Neff; and her children, Ernest Caligone, Sherail Caligone-Miller (Justin), Joseph Caligone III (Courtney), Shayla Scarberry, and Michelle Reed. She is also survived by Ashli Brihm (Chris) and Mar’Te Bonner, whom she loved as daughters.
Betty took great pride in being a Gigi to her grandchildren: Braylon, Mackenzie, Stacey, Kingston, Raheem, Joseph, Rebekah, Rosalie, Rae’Lyn, Damon, Kal-El, and her bonus grandson, Antonio. Her grandchildren were among the greatest joys of her life and gave her strength, purpose, and determination throughout her illness.
Betty enjoyed cheering for her beloved San Francisco 49ers, celebrating family milestones, and creating memories with those closest to her. Above all, she treasured her family and the moments they shared together.
Her love, faith, resilience, compassion, and unwavering devotion to her family will remain an enduring part of her legacy.
Though she will be deeply missed, her family finds comfort in knowing that she is finally at peace and free from pain. Betty’s memory will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing and loving her.
Visitation will be on Saturday, September 26, 2026 from 1-2:30 p.m. at the Wellman Funeral Home, Circleville.
