WILMINGTON, Ohio — Storm Prediction Center has placed the Scioto Valley under a risk for severe weather this week.
According to the National Weather Service, storms are expected to develop Tuesday afternoon and early evening, with the greatest threat for severe weather occurring during the overnight hours. Meteorologists with NWS say that strong winds and localized flooding will be the primary threat with these storms.
The other big news is the heat. NWS says heat indexes could reach near 100 degrees this week.
Residents are reminded to take necessary precautions if they must be outdoors for an extended period of time.
According to the Mayo Clinic, signs and symptoms of a heatstroke and heat exhaustion include:
- Cool, moist skin with goose bumps when in the heat
- Heavy sweating
- Faintness
- Dizziness
- Fatigue
- Weak, rapid pulse
- Low blood pressure upon standing
- Muscle cramps
- Nausea
- Headache
