CONCORD TOWNSHIP, Ohio — A local township trustee has resigned, citing illegal conduct by employees and the other trustees.
Marvin Garrison turned in his letter of resignation to the Ross County Board of Elections on Wednesday. He has been a trustee since 2017, having won by a mere 4 votes over his competitor. His position was up for re-election this November.
“During my term, I have experienced what I believe to be potentially unethical practices,” the now-former trustee wrote in his resignation letter. “There has been a lack of evaluation and accountability of appointed employees.”
He did not cite specific reasons of unethical conduct, but Garrison said the township doesn’t follow the law and does not keep required paperwork or documents.
He apologized to the township residents and said he wished he could fulfill his term, but hinted that the liability and alleged illegal conduct of the others put him at a high risk of compromise.
The remaining trustees will have to hold a public meeting and appoint a replacement, who will serve until the end of the year. They have scheduled a public meeting for October 9.
The Concord Trustees have come under fire recently by locals for allegations of corruption, abuse of power, poor management, and bad decorum.
