CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — A Chillicothe student was investigated by police after the discovery of a hit list.

Law enforcement said they were contacted by teachers at Chillicothe Intermediate School last week after a teacher found a student had written an extremely disturbing letter titled “Death Note.”

The unnamed student had written the note and made a list of names with 12 students and teachers, the school reported. The student, officials said, had gone so far as to label one student “death by suffocation.”

Assistant Principal Katrena Corbett told police that the student who made the writings was immediately removed from class.

Corbett, along with the police, interviewed the child about the letter and list. Reports by police said the student stated that “the list was compiled of names of people with whom they had different issues, including bullying.” The student allegedly told police that the “death note” was not a threat to any of the students, despite the wording.

School officials said that the child’s parent had been contacted and that disciplinary action was taken.

Chillicothe Police said they would not be recommending criminal charges and that the matter was closed.

A previous version of this story mistakenly identified the school involved as the middle school.
