BROOKLYN, New York — Police in New York City is searching for a gunman who opened fire on a Brooklyn subway. 

According to reports, at least 16 people were injured when a gunman wearing a gas mask opened fire during the morning rush hour commute.

The shooting occurred shortly after 8:30 a.m.

Police officials say the suspect used multiple smoke devices on the busy subway car before opening fire.

A video posted on social media showed the aftermath of the chaotic scene. Schools in the nearby vicinity were ordered to shelter in place. 

Officials have not stated if this attack was related to terrorism. The investigation is still ongoing.
