ROSS COUNTY, Ohio — The Democratic Party of Ross County ushered in a new administration on Thursday.
Dona Meyer, of Chillicothe, was elected the Chairwoman of the county’s party. She took the oath of office in a meeting held atop Carlise Hill at a local union hall. Meyer replaces retiring Chairman Tom Spetnagel, Jr., who had served a three-year term that ended this month.
“I am thankful to the members of the Ross County Democratic Party for putting their confidence in me over the last three years,” Spetnagel, Jr., said. “I want to especially thank my wife Breanne, who was my partner and teammate through it all. We wish Dona Meyer all the best as she takes over the role. It is critical that residents continue to have two strong and viable parties.”
Meyer lives in Chillicothe with her husband, who is an attorney. Meyer is a career nurse by training and has served in various volunteer positions for numerous not-for-profit organizations. Recently, Dona served as the President of the Ross County Democratic Club, which is an independent arm of the county’s party and primarily handles fundraising efforts for candidates.
This year, the local party has two seats contested on the ballot: the Ross County Auditor and a position on the Ross County Board of Commissioners. Statewide, the party sees all state offices up for election, including a U.S. Senate seat being sought by Congressman Tim Ryan and venture capitalist J.D. Vance.
