Troopers say an Athens woman was found dead in her car on Friday.
Tina M. McDowell, 33, with a last known address of Athens, was found dead inside her 2008 Toyota Yaris in a field along State Route 329 near milepost 1 in Morgan County.
“A preliminary investigation revealed that the vehicle was southbound on State Route 329 when it went off the right side of the road, over an embankment, overturned, and struck a fence,” Lt. R.C. Chesar told the Guardian. Troopers do not know how long she had been there.
Alcohol is suspected to be a factor in the crash. The Patrol reminded everyone to buckle up every time and not do drink and drive this holiday season.
The Athens County Coroner responded to the scene as well as the Jacksonville Volunteer Fire Department and Ames-Bern Volunteer Fire Department.
The crash remains under investigation by the Marietta Post of the Highway Patrol.
