PICKAWAY COUNTY, Ohio — The Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office along with Troopers from the Ohio Highway Patrol were involved in a high-speed chase this afternoon.
According to initial reports, the driver fled from deputies along route 23 north of Circleville. Speeds during the chase, dispatchers said, reached nearly 120 mph.
The driver continued to flee into the Ashville area before hitting spike strips causing the vehicle to lose control. The driver then fled on foot.
The vehicle was described as a white Hyundai Sonata. The driver reports say, is described as a white male wearing a tie-dye t-shirt. A passenger in the vehicle also fled the scene.
Additional units were requested to the scene to assist in the search for the suspects.
No further details were immediately available.
UPDATE: At 2:20 p.m. the Ashville Elementary School was placed on a precautionary lockdown due to its proximity to the incident. One suspect, authorities say, was taken into custody around 2:50 p.m. At this time one other individual remains at large.
