NELSONVILLE, Ohio — As the nation remains on edge following yet another school shooting, police in Nelsonville respond to a threats complaint from the Nelsonville- York City School District.
According to the police department, prior to the start of school, the school district was made aware of a comment about a possible threat of violence.
Immediately, the school said, contacted their SRO and the Nelsonville Police Department became involved. The individual involved in the comment was detained by NPD before school starting.
The school district has confirmed that at this time, they do not believe there was a credible threat posed. However, the investigation is ongoing and they are working closely with law enforcement to ensure the safety of students and staff.
“The safety of students and staff is the top priority for the school district, and they take any potential threat of violence seriously,” said a representative of the district.
In a statement, Chief Tolliver thanked all of the officers involved, especially SRO Lyons, for their quick response in ensuring the safety of students.
