CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — Chillicothe Water Department is set to receive grant funding as part of Ohio EPA and Governor Mike DeWine’s H2Ohio Initiative, aimed at bolstering drinking water infrastructure across the state. State Representative Bob Peterson (R-Sabina) made the announcement, revealing that six local public water systems, including Chillicothe City, have been selected to benefit from the grants.
The H2Ohio Initiative has allocated a total of $1 million in grants to over 100 communities statewide, with a focus on providing financial assistance for essential equipment required to maintain and enhance drinking water infrastructure. Public water systems throughout Ohio had the opportunity to apply for grants of up to $10,000 through H2Ohio.
Representative Peterson emphasized the importance of clean drinking water as a fundamental resource accessible to every Ohioan. He expressed gratitude for the H2Ohio initiative, highlighting its positive impact on local communities by aiding in the maintenance and improvement of their drinking water infrastructure. The grant funding will not only benefit residents but also alleviate some of the financial burden faced by public water entities.
Among the recipients in Representative Peterson’s district, the Chillicothe City Public Water System has been awarded $5,995, which will be utilized to procure leak detectors. This investment will enhance the system’s ability to identify and address leaks promptly, ensuring the delivery of safe and reliable drinking water to the community.
Additionally, other water entities in the region will receive funding for their respective infrastructure needs. Hillsboro City will receive $10,000 for leak amplification devices and portable flow meters. Leesburg Village will be granted $9,995 for valve exercisers and water leak detectors. Pike Water Inc., Plant Public Water System, will receive $9,770 to acquire pipe and cable locators and leak detectors. Washington Court House Public Water System was awarded $9,109 for leak detectors and magnetic locators. Waverly City Public Water System will receive $7,100 to support leak locators.
The H2Ohio Initiative takes a comprehensive approach to improve water infrastructure, combating harmful algal blooms, and preventing lead contamination. By providing essential funding, the initiative aims to enhance the quality and safety of drinking water throughout the state, including in Chillicothe and the surrounding communities.
