CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — In a closely contested mayoral race, incumbent Democrat Luke Feeney emerged as the winner in Chillicothe’s election on Tuesday night, securing his re-election against opponents, Republican Julie Preston and Independent Jade Berry.

Feeney, who has held the mayoral position, faced a tough challenge as the city’s residents turned out to cast their votes. Despite a competitive campaign, Feeney’s named resonated with voters, ultimately earning him a renewed mandate for a third term.

Republican Joe Gieringer lost his seat to Democrat Kevin Shoemaker for President of Chillicothe City Council.

Speaking of council, the three at-large seats came in with Republicans Dr. Allison Henderson and Jeff Creed winning, along with incumbent Democrat Dustin Proehl. Dr. Anthony Phillips, a Republican and Democrats Gunner Barnes and David Tatman lost.

  • FIRST WARD: Lisa Bennett, Republican has won. Defeating Democrat Ruth Teeters. It was an open race.
  • SECOND WARD: Kathy Payne, the incumbent Republican has won. Defeating Democrat Christina Arredondo.
  • THIRD WARD: Deidra Nickerson, a Democrat ran unopposed.
  • FOURTH WARD: Appointed-incumbent Republican Steve Barnes wins over Democrat John Thacker.
  • FIFTH WARD: Republican Greg McKeever wins, over Democrat Julie Thacker. It was an open race. However, with provisional ballots still to be counted, Thacker only lacks by five votes. The race could flip.
  • SIXTH WARD: Dan DeMint, the Republican beats appointed-incumbent Democrat Jamie Brown. DeMint unofficially won by two votes, which means provisional ballots could still change the outcome. They will be counted within 14 days.

As the election results rolled in, Feeney’s success was evident, solidifying his position as Chillicothe’s mayor for another term.
