CINCINNATI, Ohio — The Ohio Department of Health (ODH) is alerting individuals who traveled through Terminal A of the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport on specific dates to potential measles exposure.
Out of an abundance of caution, ODH is notifying individuals who were present in Terminal A during the following times:
- January 27, 2024, between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m.
- January 29, 2024, between 8:30 p.m. and 11:30 p.m.
The potential exposure is linked to a confirmed case of measles in a Montgomery County child, previously reported by ODH. The individual in Terminal A is not a new case but was potentially infectious during those times.
Health officials are currently working to identify potentially exposed passengers on specific flights and contacting them directly. However, ODH urges everyone who was present in Terminal A during the designated times to be aware of the risk and take precautions.
Measles is a highly contagious respiratory illness, and individuals who are not vaccinated are particularly susceptible. The best way to protect yourself and others is to be vaccinated with the MMR vaccine.
Here are the key points to remember:
- If you are up-to-date on your MMR vaccination, your risk of contracting measles is very low.
- If you or your child are not vaccinated, contact your healthcare provider immediately to schedule a vaccination.
- Be aware of measles symptoms:fever, runny nose, watery red eyes, and cough followed by a rash spreading from the face to the body.
- If you develop symptoms, stay home, call your healthcare provider, and inform them about the potential measles exposure.
- For more information on measles and vaccination, contact your local health department or visit the ODH website.
