CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — More individuals in Ohio’s First Capital have fallen victim to card skimmers, with the Ross County Sheriff’s Office receiving additional reports of EBT benefits stolen from patrons of the Corner Market grocery store on Charleston Pike. On Thursday, August 1, two individuals reported that their entire EBT balance had been wiped out.
This comes on the heels of last month’s Guardian report detailing a series of card skimmer discoveries in Dayton, Washington Court House, Wellston, and Chillicothe. In Chillicothe, skimmers were found at both Save-a-Lot on Western Avenue and the Corner Market.
Law enforcement agencies continue to investigate these incidents. Detectives in Washington Court House have shared with Chillicothe officials that they have a description of the suspects and their vehicle, a blue Dodge Caravan with a Virginia license plate. Although the Ross County Sheriff’s Office has not released the license plate number or the suspects’ names, they have confirmed that the Ohio Highway Patrol’s Intelligence Unit has identified the vehicle’s owner.
As the investigation progresses, authorities urge residents to stay vigilant. Recommended precautions include:
- Regularly monitoring bank statements for suspicious activity or unauthorized purchases.
- Inspecting card readers for tampering or unusual attachments before swiping.
