Details have emerged about the heavy police presence Sunday evening at a standoff in Chillicothe.
Reports state that a man named Luke Segnitz was arguing with his brother on Betty Lane; the neighbors called police. The argument ensued after the man’s pet kitten ran out of the house and could not be found.
When police arrived at the house on the neighbor dispute, Segnitz was barricaded inside his house with a ball bat.
Police officers wrote in their report that they saw a car with busted windows and shattered glass in the driveway, along with windows busted out of the house, and when they looked inside the house, they saw that the house had been destroyed.
Police yelled for anyone inside to come out, and that’s when Segnitz reportedly charged officers with the bat, while covered in blood. Officers demanded he drop his weapon, but instead, the man threw it at officers while yelling profanities.
Units on scene called for back up, and found the man’s brother hiding in a shed, fearing for his safety.
Once the additional officers arrived, the man remained barricaded inside the house and refused to come out. After about 30 minutes with troopers, deputies, and officers surrounding the house with their guns drawn, police were ordered by their supervisors to stand down and issue a warrant for the man’s arrest, according to neighbors.
Despite erroneous reporting by online blogs, the area SWAT team was not dispatched to the scene.
No law enforcement officers were hurt in the debacle.
