CHILLICOTHE, Ohio – A structure fire on England Hollow Road in Ross County drew emergency responders Thursday evening, but the flames weren’t the only problem they encountered.
According to a report from the Ross County Sheriff’s Office, firefighters with Scioto Township EMS and Fire arrived on the scene around 5:34 p.m. to battle the blaze. The fire, which had spread to an abandoned home, reportedly began as a brush fire. The homeowner admitted to starting the fire but said he hadn’t realized it had extended to the structure.
While crews worked to contain the situation, an altercation broke out between the homeowner and emergency responders. Firefighters stated that when they attempted to provide information about Ohio’s fire regulations, the homeowner became agitated and attempted to swing at them. He was restrained before the situation escalated further.
By the time Ross County deputies arrived, the fire had been contained. Scioto Township EMS and Fire declined to press charges, asking only that the homeowner be officially given the information about fire laws. A deputy handed over the document and advised against further confrontations with emergency personnel.
With no indication of foul play, no further law enforcement action was taken.
