A Columbus police officer has been charged with child pornography.

According to police, officer Raymond A. Rose, III, filmed a video of a 10-year-old girl in a bedroom while she was nude in July.

The video was reviewed on Rose’s cell phone and clearly depicted a child, police said.

Rose is also charged with distributing harmful material to the girl, which means he is accused of showing her pornography.

The officer was booked into jail early Thursday morning.

Columbus Police Chief Tom Quinlan said, “When criminal activity is discovered, our duty is to investigate and pursue the appropriate action based on the evidence. The fact that it involves one of our own does not change that. The protection of children demands the highest level of priority and investigation. Regardless of who the accused is, we support every effort to ensure justice is done.”

Rose is on paid administrative leave and had his gun and arrest powers taken away.
