A man has been charged in the shooting of another Washington Court House man.
Dylan M. Ballein, 27, is booked into the Fayette County Jail on a second degree felony count of felonious assault. He is accused of shooting Jeremy Peters, 37, on March 14 in Washington Court House.
Peters was allegedly trying to visit his estranged girlfriend when he was shot by her then-boyfriend in the backyard. Peters was transported to a Columbus-area hospital with multiple gunshot wounds. Ballein was detained, but later released after questioning.
It was Wednesday morning that Ballein was charged with the shooting after officers were able to gather enough evidence to support what they believe is an appropriate charge.
The exact events leading up to the shooting have not been released, but Peters had just been sentenced a few days prior for domestic violence involving the estranged woman. She had a temporary restraining order on him, which expired about a week before the shooting. It was not released by police if that criminal case had anything to do with the shooting or attempted justification.
Peters is listed in stable condition after undergoing surgeries. Ballein is set for an arraignment next week.
