Only minor injuries were reported after a tree fell during a severe thunderstorm onto an SUV, shutting down route 50.
It occurred at 8:15 p.m. Monday night in southern Ross County just south of Londonderry. The tree fell onto the hood of a blue Ford Escape after its roots became softened in a Monday afternoon storm.
Only minor injuries were reported, but route 50 was closed for more than an hour as crews brought in multiple chainsaws and a tractor to remove the large oak tree.
The SUV was totaled and has to be towed away from the scene.
