A woman was murdered, a child kidnapped, and a man broke into a church and killed himself. All this happened outside of Hillsboro Saturday morning.
Sherry Wall, 33, was found shot dead late Friday night at around 11:30 p.m at her home on route 50 in Highland County after deputies received a 9-1-1 call that a man murdered Wall and stole her child.
Hillsboro Police, deputies, and troopers raced to the area, where they found a small child standing alone outside of a nearby church that had a broken window.
Peering inside, deputies saw a man with a gun. Law enforcement quickly snatched the child up and took her to safety.
The Sheriff’s office called for a SWAT team, who made entry into the Church of the Nazarene and found Joshua McLaughlin, 37, dead inside from a self-inflicted gunshot to the head.
U.S. 50, which had been closed while police investigated, has reopened.
Church leaders said Sunday services and a live Nativity event scheduled for tonight are canceled.
