A Hocking County deputy Sheriff found himself on the opposite side of the law over the weekend.
Derek Shirey, 30, was charged with a first degree misdemeanor of domestic violence on Sunday while he was visiting the Lake Erie region of Put-in-Bay.
The details of the arrest have not been released. A call to the Put-in-Bay Police Department from the Guardian asking for a copy of the police report was not immediately fulfilled.
Shirey was booked into jail and had his mugshot taken and was released on an own recognizance bond. He is due in court for his arraignment on September 16.
He was hired in 2012 by the Hocking County Sheriff’s office. A message was left with Sheriff Lanny North on Wednesday morning for comment on this story, but it was not immediately returned.
