A Ross County family has lost everything in an early morning fire.
Firefighters were called to 5107 Liberty Hill Road Tuesday morning. The homeowners had called 9-1-1 and said their home was on fire and that they were trapped inside.
The man who lives in the home was able to scale a window that was about five feet off the ground before he could pull his wife through and escape the inferno, according to an interview on Tuesday.
Firefighters from three townships and Chillicothe City responded to the blaze.
Insurance investigators were at the scene around noon on Tuesday attempting to determine the cause of the blaze. The family said they awoke to smoke outside of the home before flames started to spread inside. By then, they said they were trapped and struggled to get out.
When asked on Tuesday if the family needed anything, the homeowner, Don, told the Guardian that right now, he and his wife are trying to process the emotions that come along with losing everything, including irreplaceable family heirlooms.
