A firefighter in Ross County was hurt Wednesday morning while battling a blaze.
According to the Veteran Affairs Fire Department, their assistant chief was called for mutual aide by Union Township for a house fire on Page Road; the Guardian was the only local news outlet at the scene.
During the fire, a black tar substance started to rain down on firefighters battling the blaze.
The assistant chief was taken to Ohio State Wexner Medical Center for second and third degree burns. The department credits the assistant chief’s firefighter uniform for saving his life.
The firefighter is expected to be okay and has been released from the hospital.
The state fire marshal was called to the scene to investigate.
