HIGHLAND COUNTY, Ohio — A new fishing pier is now open at Rocky Fork Lake according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife. The project was made possible by the National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF), Whitetails Unlimited South Central Ohio Chapter (WTU), Ohio State Parks and Watercraft and the Division of Wildlife. The pier is located off Lucas Lane on the lake’s east side.
This project was a conservation partnership with generous funding from the NWTF and WTU. Ohio State Parks and Watercraft purchased, installed and will maintain the pier and the Division of Wildlife contributed technical assistance as well as underwater lighting and structure to attract fish. Division of Wildlife funding was made possible through USFWS Sport Fish Restoration program. This program generates funds from an excise tax on fishing equipment.
The pier is ADA-accessible and features an underwater light. The light attracts small baitfish. The baitfish in turn attract larger fish. Spider block style fish attractors and Christmas trees were also placed in the water near the pier to enhance angler success.
