PORTSMOUTH, Ohio– Southern Ohio Medical Center in Portsmouth is making a plea to the public to get vaccinated and mask up.
In an online statement, SOMC announced that their ICU Unit was at full capacity.
“We are implementing alternate care plans for critical patients,” said a hospital representative.
“We are preparing to open our fourth COVID Unit to address this ongoing surge. We are doing everything in our power to provide care to our community, but we desperately need your help.”
The state of Ohio is in the grips of rising caseloads as the COVID-19 Delta variant continues to sweep across the state. SOMC joins other area hospitals that are struggling to care for patients.
On Saturday, Ohio health officials announced that Pike and Highland Counties ranked the highest for COVID cases per 100,000 residents in the state.
