CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — Work continues on East Second Street in Chillicothe as the city makes it a two-way street.
The city is continuing its resurfacing work preparing for the road to reopen with changes to the direction of travel.
For years the portion of East Second Street from Mulberry to Walnut Street remained one-way. The city of Chillicothe voted last year to change the road to a two-way street.
In 2020, the city of Chillicothe estimated the resurfacing cost to be around $150,000. Many downtown business owners voiced their support for the changes.
According to city engineers, the traffic signal at Paint Street and Second Street will be removed, and the intersection will become a four-way stop.
Area residents say it will take time to get used to the new driving pattern. The city says message boards and extra signage will help motorists navigate the road changes.
Officials hope to have East Second Street reopened by the end of October.
