WASHINGTON COURT HOUSE, Ohio — A person is in custody after an apparent murder in Fayette County.
Police reported that they got a call shortly before noon on Thursday that someone was dead at the City Motel in Washington Court House along Washington Avenue. When officers got there they found a crime scene and a dead body.
Police worked to quickly identify a person of interest in — what police are labeling — a murder, who had left the area, as well as the car they were driving. Deputies in neighboring Highland County were able to find the suspect’s vehicle abandoned behind Wal-Mart in Hillsboro, while at the same time a call for a carjacking was phoned-in from a nearby gas station.
Police and deputies were able to find the stolen car from the fueling station, which was being driven by the suspect from Washington Court House, who is believed to have committed the car jacking. The person of interest was arrested in a traffic stop near Greenfield, police reported, and the stolen car was recovered.
The name of the deceased and the suspect were not released. The Ohio Attorney General’s office was called to assist in the homicide investigation.
