FAYETTE COUNTY, Ohio — Two former employees from Miami Trace have been indicted on allegations they embezzled money.
Joni Blouse and her father, Steven Grubb each face fourth degree felony charges for theft-of-office. The indictments stem from allegations that Blouse — who was the district’s transportation supervisor — used her position to alter her father’s time cards, who drove a bus.
The Guardian was the first to tell you that Blouse was placed on leave two months ago amid an internal affairs investigation. At the time, the district office would not comment on the matter, citing personnel privacy issues.
Documents released by the Fayette County Sheriff’s office accuse Grubb of clocking in to work from his home but not actually driving a bus route. The police report also says that Blouse abused her position to further alter her father’s time cards. In total, the district’s treasurer told law enforcement that Grubb stole $3,402.88.
A grand jury indicted Grubb on theft-in-office last week, while his daughter has been charged with complicity to theft-in-office. Both face an arraignment in May.
Grubb and Blouse have been released from their jobs with the school district, records show.
Prosecutor Jess Weade declined to comment in order to preserve the integrity of the case since the two have not been arraigned at the time of this story.
A previous version of this article misclassified the felony charge as a fifth degree.
This seems a great deal of activity regarding a bus driver and whether he drove his bus. How he could avoid driving his bus without it being noticed by those on the route who are waiting for it to arrive?
Isn’t it out of proportion, considering the general level of “soft” shirking, going on weekend from Friday lunchtime (military), “working from home” (academia), and people who don’t have to account for their whereabouts, (managers, politicians), or anyone who doesn’t have to punch a time card.
This prosecution remind me of how they went after the corporals at Abu Ghraib but let the senior officers go free.
The Miami Trace School system is CORRUPT to the bone! It all started with the last Superintendent…crime, corruption, and money schemes. It’s to the point now where the taxpayers of Fayette County are being lied to and have had hundreds of millions of dollars stolen from them by this seedy Lewis guy. He ran one of the most corrupt school districts in the US. The Record-Herald will not report ANYTHING, either….this has the makings of a very detailed cover-up, and people need put in jail! This Lewis dude was also warned about this Transportation Supervisor endangering children’s safety, yet he did NOTHING about it!
