DAYTON, Ohio — The Democratic gubernatorial candidate in Ohio will announce a plan to give an “inflation stimulus check” to Ohioans.

Nan Whaley — the former Mayor of Dayton — will announce the proposal in a Wednesday morning news conference.

Inflation has been surging for more than a year across the globe. The White House, along with the Fed, initially portrayed the inflation surge as a temporary side effect caused by supply chain issues as the U.S. emerged from the pandemic. Republican lawmakers were fast to criticize President Joe Biden’s $1.9 trillion coronavirus relief package from last year as pumping too much money into the economy and causing more inflation. That narrative also has held some sway with leading economists who say the financial support was excessive even though it helped the job market roar back.

Whaley said her proposal will give those struggling with increased costs by sending an inflation rebate of $350 to “every middle-class Ohioan.”

“Ohioans are seeing the cost of nearly everything increase – from record-high gas prices to increasing costs for groceries and other necessities like baby formula,” she stated. “As Governor, I would fight to make Ohioans’ bills go down and their pay go up, and this inflation rebate is just the latest example of my plan to do just that.”

The plan will be unveiled at 11 a.m.
