CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — The Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections (ODRC) says that convicted killer Jason McCrary has died.
McCrary was convicted of the murder of Timberly Claytor of Chillicothe in July 2016.
Claytor’s body was found next to the former Massieville Dairy Bar on Trego Creek Road in May 2015. Her death came during a time where multiple women went missing and several turned up dead in the Ross County area.
Maintaining innocence during his trial, McCrary told jurors that Ernest “Dollar Bill” Moore III was the person who fired the fatal shot that took Claytor’s life. Moore, himself, has been a person of interest in the disappearance of Charolette Trego and other Chillicothe-area women. Moore is currently serving a 10-year prison term in Ohio for kidnapping and felonious assault unrelated to the cases. He is expected to be released in 2025.
A spokesperson for ODRC told the Guardian that McCrary died on July 15. The cause of death has not been released, and the Ohio Highway Patrol says the death remains under investigation.
McCrary was serving a life sentence at the Warren Correctional Institution.
