CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — A new car wash is being built on the former Sumburger lot in Chillicothe.

A banner went up this week at 1481 North Bridge Street that “Take 5” was “coming soon.”

Take 5 is the second car wash company to announce in recents weeks their intent to build in Chillicothe. Across the street ground has broken on a competitor named “Ultimate Shine” in front of Rural King. Both are next to a third, existing wash called “Crystal Klean.”

“Our staff is committed to delivering the best express car wash in the community, one car at a time. At Take 5 customers stay in the car and our members are never far from a clean car. We focus on exceeding our customer’s expectations by providing a superior wash that is always safe and delivered with innovative wash and rinse technology,” the company said. “Our members get unlimited washes and lots of compliments.”

Both car washes are part of a growing concept of monthly membership car washes. While the companies will offer single-purchases for washing, they are most known for their monthly subscription-based services that offer different packages with free vacuuming. Car wash tunnels have started to become popular around the country with their perks of “freebies” and auto-bill monthly subscription services. Chillicothe already has one such company called Goo-Goo on Main Street.

Sumburger closed their drive-in restaurant on Bridge Street in 2020 and the land has been on the market ever since.
