CLINTON COUNTY, Ohio — I-71 is currently closed in portions of Clinton County following what officials call a “police incident.”
All buildings and homes in the area of I-71 from Smith Road to Center Road are currently on lockdown.
Authorities say this incident started with an attempted break-in at the FBI field office in Cincinnati. A spokesperson with the Ohio Highway Patrol said shortly after 9 a.m., a armed suspect tried to enter the facility. The FBI stated a gun fight ensued before the suspect fled in a white Ford Crown Victoria. The suspect, officials said, led troopers on a high-speed chase. The pursuit continued north on I-71. The suspect, reports say, then exited onto route 73 before stopping their vehicle. The patrol reported a second gun battle having occurred.
Authorities say a stand-off is currently underway with the suspect.
Reports from dispatchers and law enforcement state that the suspect appeared to be wearing tactical gear and had a rifle.
