CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — A Chillicothe teen is in hot water after authorities say he attempted to set his family’s home on fire.
Officers with the police department responded to a Vine Street residence yesterday afternoon after the parents of the teen came home and discovered several burn marks on the wall in their living room.
Police arrived on the scene and spoke with the boy who admitted to using a “torch lighter” in an attempt to set the house on fire. The boy went on to tell officers that he sprayed an “oil substance” on the walls to use as an accelerant.
When investigators asked the young man why he would try to set the house on fire he reportedly replied that he “was bored.” The parents told investigators that their son does suffer from mental health disorders and would sometimes become violent.
The teen’s sibling and one of their friends were also inside the residence at the time. No one was injured in the incident.
Arson charges, officials say, are pending review by the Ross County Juvenile Prosector’s Office.
The case remains under investigation.
