CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio — A Circleville mother had a scare Thursday when she was unable to locate her 17-month-old child.
The Circleville Police Department responded to the area of East Mound Street after dispatchers received a call regarding the missing toddler.
According to the police department, officers arrived on the scene and spoke with the mother who said she was caring for her newborn child in another room. The mother said when she went to check on the other child, he was gone.
Reports say that the child’s mother told officers on the scene that she had discovered a floor vent cover had been moved in her bedroom. Officials say that officers shined a flashlight down the vent and saw the child’s foot.
Officers then went to the basement of the residence and found the child trapped above the HVAC unit.
First responders were able to rescue him from the vent.
Medics arrived on the scene and evaluated the child for any injuries.
The rescuing officer did say that a small toy was found in the vent, and the child most likely was attempting to get it out when he fell and became trapped.
