WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) announced that the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Mutual Self-Help Housing Technical Assistance Grants program has awarded two grants totaling $735,000 to the Community Action Commission of Fayette County, which serves Clinton, Fayette, Greene, Highland, and Ross Counties, for their Self-Help Housing Program. The funding will help 20 low- and very-low-income applicants build homes.
“Rural communities face unique challenges, and this federal funding will make the investments they need to improve the lives of their residents,” Brown said. “My office and I will continue working to ensure that Southwest Ohio gets its fair share of support and investment.”
Community Action Commission of Fayette County’s Self-Help Housing program helps build safe, permanent, and affordable housing and promotes sustainable rural community development.
USDA’s Mutual Self-Help Housing Technical Assistance Grants program provides funds to qualified organizations to help carry out local self-help housing construction projects. Grant recipients supervise groups of very-low and low-income individuals and families as they construct their own homes in rural areas.
