WILMINGTON, Ohio — The National Weather Service says rain is expected to quickly turn to snow to end the work week. Approximately 1 to 2 inches of snowfall are forecast, with concerns for a flash freeze due to rapidly falling temperatures. This may impact the morning commute on Friday.
In addition to the snow, the region is expected to experience extremely cold temperatures, with the thermometer dropping into negative numbers. Wind chills could reach as low as -25 degrees, making it dangerous to be outside for extended periods of time.
High winds are also expected, which could lead to power outages.
The combination of extreme cold and the potential for outages can create dangerous conditions for your holiday weekend. It is important to stay informed about the weather and to take necessary precautions to stay safe.
American Electric Power Ohio issued a statement concerning the potential for mass power outages. The power company said, “crews will work to restore any power outages as quickly and safely as possible — however, road conditions, lingering wind gusts, and extreme wind chills could delay some restoration efforts.”
AEP Ohio president and chief operating officer, Marc Reitter, added, “We know our customers depend on us to keep the power on — especially during the extreme cold and at a time when many are celebrating the holidays. Our crews are ready and prepared to restore power if outages occur. We’ll continue to keep our customers updated on what to expect and are encouraging everyone to be as prepared as possible.”
