ROSS COUNTY, Ohio — One person was injured in an overnight fire in Ross County. Authorities say the blaze is being investigated as arson. It happened around 11:30 p.m. Sunday evening.
According to the Ross County Sheriff’s Office, firefighters and deputies were dispatched to the 4000 block of Main Street in South Salem.
A neighbor told first responders that an elderly man living at the residence was still inside.
Firefighters on the scene, reports said, were able to rescue the elderly man through an upstairs window. He was later transported to Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center by helicopter. Officials have not released the man’s name or current condition.
The Sherriff’s Office did say that staff at the hospital noted what appeared to be ligature marks around the victim’s neck. Fire marshals with the state have been called to continue the investigation into the fire.
