CLEVELAND, Ohio — Ohio State Senator Matt Dolan announced he will be running for the U.S. Senate seat currently held by Democrat Sherrod Brown.
Dolan whose family owns the Cleveland Guardians made an unsuccessful bid for the Senate in 2022, losing the primary vote to Trump-endorsed candidate J.D. Vance.
Matt Dolan took to Twitter Tuesday morning saying, “A lot can change in 30 years, but in that time Sherrod Brown’s blind loyalty to his party has remained the same. I have a record of conservative, results-driven leadership. As Ohio’s next U.S. Senator, I will place the needs of our state first.”
Brown whose political career has spanned decades has kept U.S. veterans as his priority. Brown made several stops over the last few years in Chillicothe, advocating to keep the V.A. Medical Center open and demanding the government take responsibility for long-term health issues caused by exposure to toxic burn pits.
Dolan has become the first Republican to announce their plans to run against the incumbent senator in 2024.
