William “Bill” Edward Maness, age 93, of Hillsboro, passed away Tuesday February 28, 2023, at his home with his family by his side.
He was born on January 14, 1930, in Cincinnati, Ohio, the son of the late Eugene and Gertrude (Pistner) Maness.
Bill proudly served his country in the United States Navy during WWII and the Korean War. Bill worked for the Cincinnati Gear Company for 40 years, starting as a machinist and retiring as an inspector. He was a member of the Highland Amateur Radio Association and a member of the St. Mary Catholic Church in Hillsboro. Bill enjoyed traveling, especially by train, gardening, working on jigsaw puzzles, and he really enjoyed living the country life. He was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
Bill is survived by ten children, Judy (Frank) Finkbeiner of St. Martin, OH, Larry (Kathy) Maness of Mission Viejo, CA, Karen (John) Detweiler of Hendersonville, NC, Sharon (Ed) Pennington of Trenton, OH, Paul (Tina) Maness of Batavia, OH, Mark Maness of Cincinnati, OH, Theresa (Duane) Bradley of Birmingham, AL, Mary (Ed) Willis of Delaware, OH, Margo Belkofer of Powell, OH, and Kevin Maness of Cincinnati, OH; very special friend, Anne Lerch of Hillsboro; twenty-one grandchildren, Aaron, Amy (David), Brian (Beth), David, Jennifer, Khea (Kenny), Andrea (David), Craig, Tyler (Atsumi), Denver (Ginny), Dallas, Valorie, Mark Jr., Christopher, Emily (Thomas), Amanda, Kyle, Ryan, Adam, Alyssa (Jordan), Ashley (Alex), and numerous great grandchildren; four siblings, Marion Dooloukas of Goshen, OH, Joseph (Pat) Maness of Cincinnati, Robert (Kathy) Maness of Florida, Dorothy Maness of Cincinnati and his first wife, Pauline (Schuler) Maness.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his second wife, Eleanor Maness; a son, Ralph Maness; a grandson, Andrew Maness; two brothers, James and Ronald Maness; and a son-in-law, Lt. Col. Thomas Belkofer.
Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Saturday March 11, 2023, at the St. Mary Catholic Church in Hillsboro. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday following visitation. Father Mike Paraniuk will be the celebrant. Burial with military honors will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Monday March 13th, 2023, in the Dayton National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Bill’s name to the St. Mary Catholic Church, 212 S High St., Hillsboro, Ohio 45133, the Hope Emergency Program, 5333 Kernan Rd., Lynchburg, Ohio 45142, or to the Hospice of Hope Ohio Valley, 215 Hughes Blvd., Mt. Orab, Ohio 45154.
