VINTON COUNTY, Ohio — A Wilkesville woman is in custody today following a high-speed chase with the Vinton County Sheriff’s Office.
According to reports, deputies patrolling Minerton Road came across a vehicle sitting in the middle of the road. When they tried to stop the vehicle, it fled, leading to a pursuit that ended when the vehicle reached a dead end on Cardwell Road.
The deputies, officials said, attempted to apprehend the driver, identified as Angel Ferrell, 44, of Wilkesville. Ferrell, however, put her vehicle in reverse and rammed the door of the cruiser, nearly striking one of the deputies. The sheriff’s office said in order to prevent Ferrell from causing further damage or injury, a taser was deployed, and she was apprehended soon after.
Upon searching Ferrell, the deputies found suspected narcotics in her mouth, which she had apparently tried to eat to avoid discovery, authorities said. Ferrell was arrested and transported to Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail, where she is expected to have a bond hearing later this week.
The incident also caused damage to a sheriff’s cruiser, prompting the Ohio Highway Patrol to investigate the extent of the damage. Fortunately, none of the deputies involved in the incident were injured.
