FAYETTE COUNTY, Ohio — The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office has released new information in the case of Naomi Sayre, 21. Officials say the body of Sayre was found in a closet of a residence located at 50 Midland Avenue in the Village of Bloomingburg.
According to reports, Naomi Sayre was reported missing by her mother, Theresa Sayre, on March 5, 2023, after allegedly ingesting medication not prescribed to her and leaving the home without her phone.
Following the missing person report, a community search was coordinated on March 12th where volunteers canvassed the Village of Bloomingburg, focusing on the area where Naomi Sayre was last reported to have been seen by her mother.
On March 22, 2023, at 12:38 a.m., the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a person found deceased at the same residence where Naomi was reported missing. Deputies were directed to an upstairs area of the home where they discovered Naomi’s deceased body in a closet. The time and cause of death are unknown at this time, although the decomposition of the remains, officials said, indicates that she had been deceased for an extended period of time.
Sheriff’s detectives were contacted and responded to the scene, obtaining a search warrant for the home in their continuing investigation. At the scene, detectives conducted interviews with other individuals present during the discovery of Naomi’s body.
Fayette County Coroner Dr. Lenora Fitton was summoned to the scene following the report and pronounced Naomi Sayre dead on arrival. Naomi Sayre was subsequently transported from the scene to the Montgomery County Medical Coroner’s Office for a post-mortem examination. There were no signs of foul play, the sheriff said, that were discovered during the examination.
Sheriff Vernon Stanforth also stated that “Theresa Sayre declined to be interviewed by detectives and wished to speak with legal counsel.”
The investigation is still ongoing and anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office.
