SCIOTO COUNTY, Ohio- Scioto County Sheriff David Thoroughman reported a shooting incident that took place on Saturday, May 20, at 2874 Tatman-Coe Road in McDermott, Ohio. The incident was brought to the attention of authorities through a 9-1-1 call made by a female, who claimed that her husband had been shot in the face.
Upon receiving the distress call, deputies and emergency medical squads were dispatched to the location. They arrived to find the victim, identified as 23-year-old William Issac Dummitt, suffering from a gunshot wound to the face. Dummitt was immediately transported by ambulance to Southern Ohio Medical Center and later transferred to a trauma center, where he underwent surgery. His condition is currently reported as stable.
Deputies learned that the male suspect involved in the shooting had fled the scene in a truck. During their investigation, law enforcement received another 9-1-1 call reporting a truck crash on Pollock Road. The Ohio State Highway Patrol responded to the crash site and discovered a truck matching the description of the suspect’s vehicle. Deputies and detectives proceeded to the crash scene and recovered a firearm from inside the truck.
Further developments led to the apprehension of the suspect, who was found on foot in the vicinity. He was then taken to Southern Ohio Medical Center for medical treatment. Subsequent interviews and evidence collection at the hospital resulted in the arrest of 26-year-old Henry Allan Clay Jr., a resident of 6044 Camp Creek Road in Lucasville, Ohio.
Clay has been charged with one count of Felonious Assault, a second-degree felony, one count of Having Weapons while under Disability, a third-degree felony, and Operating a Vehicle Under the Influence, a misdemeanor. He made an appearance in Portsmouth Municipal Court on May 22, and is currently held at the Scioto County Jail on a $50,000 bond.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing, with authorities continuing to gather evidence and statements from witnesses.
