VINTON COUNTY, Ohio — The Vinton County Sheriff’s Office has arrested James Daryl Coleman on charges of assault in connection with the death of Travis Dakota Williams.
Williams, 28, of Thurman, died after authorities responded to a South Market Street residence, in McArthur, on July 27. Police initially said there were no signs of foul play, but the Williams family has alleged that he was murdered.
The family claims that Williams was subjected to brutal beatings, torture, and an alleged attempt to bury him before being taken to the Market Street residence to die. They also say that a video recording of the incident exists, which provides evidence to support the claims of foul play.
Coleman was arrested on Wednesday and is being held in the Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail.
The Williams family is demanding answers and transparency from law enforcement. They have created a Facebook page called “Justice For Dakota” and a “GoFundMe” account to help with funeral expenses.
An official cause of death has not been released. Authorities say that portion of the case remains under investigation.
