PICKAWAY COUNTY, Ohio — A woman was killed and two others injured in a semi-truck collision yesterday afternoon, according to Pickaway County Sheriff Matthew O. Hafey.
The incident occurred around 12:46 pm on Route 62 in Darby Township. Deputies responded to reports of a semi-truck overturned and smoking after striking a pole. Their investigation revealed that a southbound Peterbilt semi-truck driven by 52-year-old Paul J. Marks of Millersport, Ohio, collided with a Hyundai traveling in the same direction.
The Hyundai, driven by 40-year-old Nicole A. Van Gundy of Orient, Ohio, had reportedly entered the intersection at Five Points Pike when it was struck by the semi. Ms. Van Gundy was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency personnel.
Mr. Marks sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Grant Medical Center for treatment. An 8-year-old passenger in the Hyundai also suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Nationwide Children’s Hospital.
The sheriff’s office continues to investigate the cause of the crash. No further details regarding the contributing factors or potential charges have been released at this time.
